America Blooms Every Day at Fairgrounds Coffee House
Here are my wall sculptures at Fairgrounds Coffee House in Iowa City. They are made of 365 plastic bags, one for each day of the year. I collected them from my own stash of plastic bags, and then found the rest by going door to door in my neighborhood asking if people had any bags to spare. I met new neighbors that way, and they were sure glad to get rid of some of their bags, too.
Christine Alexander, the owner of Fairgrounds Coffee House, told me that: “She’s never had to talk about art so much, since this display has been up [in the coffee house].” That’s a good thing, yep? She also said that many people think they’re Christmas wreaths. I feel that art is whatever you perceive it to be. Happy Holidays!
